Supporting Your Young Adult with ADHD: A Parent’s Guide to Encouraging Independence

A Guided Support Group for Parents of Adults Ages 18 and up

Led by Dr. Sharon Saline, Psy.D.

  • 8 Sessions, weekly on Zoom
  • When: Wednesday evenings, 7:00pm – 8:30 pm EDT
  • Dates:  10/9 through 11/26
  • Group Size: 20 people (maximum)

In this eight week group, Dr. Sharon Saline – clinical psychologist, author and international consultant – will help parents navigate this tricky time of life with their late teens and emerging adults. As parents, we must start by managing our own anxiety and expectations so we can show up and meet our children where – and as – they are. Dr. Sharon guides participants in a shift from parental doing to parental presence, from opinionated directing to empathic listening, and from painful arguing to practicing radical family acceptance.

Each week, participants will explore hot topics related to raising neurodivergent emerging adults through the lens of connected independence – Dr. Saline’s effective, collaborative approach to building self-reliance in your children of all ages. You will learn tools for helping them reduce paralyzing self-doubt, procrastination, disorganization and stress by shoring up executive functioning challenges, succeeding in the tasks of daily living and nurturing a growth mindset. After attending this group, you will leave with practical, evidence-based tools to support your child in creating a successful path with less conflict and greater cooperation.

You will learn how to:

  • Identify the developmental milestones in transitioning to adulthood with ADHD and neurodivergence
  • Apply the 5C’s of ADHD and connected independence when parenting older teens and young adults
  • Build tools and practices for managing your anxiety and concerns
  • Identify strategies for improving both their key executive functioning skills and daily living responsibilities
  • Improve family communication, strengthen relationships and increase resilience
